As Labor Day approaches, we’re reminded of the focus: WORKERS!  Fighting For Workers below on behalf of clients is a brief summary of the 2026 Legislative session.  

GA GENREAL ASSEMBLY (HIGHLIGHTS)

SB 94: (OPPOSED) Legislation would insert a powerful, UNELECTEDexecutive appointed by and accountable to the Governor into a process overseen by the democratically elected PSC. (DEFEATED).

HB 1302: (OPPOSED) Legislation would make Georgia its’ own apprenticeship registration authority increasing state control and influence over how apprenticeship programs operate (currently under Federal US DOL). Most harmful language to union apprenticeship programs stripped from bill. (PASSED).

HB 574/SB 32: (OPPOSED) Legislation sought to remove Longshoreman from the State Workman’s Compensation system (DEFEATED).

HB 1355: (OPPOSED) Workman’s compensation legislation would shift burden from employer to worker through procedural hurdles and systemic delays. (DEFEATED).

HB 229/SB 463: (SUPPORTED) Senate added amendment to HB 229 “No Taxes on Overtime/Tips”. On the last legislative day, the House added the Senate’s Property Tax language & No Tax on Overtime/Tips language to SB 463. Comprising on the FINAL legislation; beginning January 2027-December 2028, the first 1750 overtime hours worked are GA State tax exempt as well as the first $1750 cash tips for tipped workers EACH year (PASSED).
